Strong winds battered Newcastle today after Storm Gertrude left thousands of homes here in the North East without power. Now its Storm Henry's turn to take on our region ,bringing winds of up to 90 miles per hour to Northern parts of the UK.

Storm Henry is the eighth named storm to hit Britain and comes just days after the UK saw off Storm Gertrude, which brought gusts of more than 100mph in places as well as heavy rain and snow.

This shows the wind speeds across the country. The red arrows show where the wind is

'gusting', with the bigger arrows indicating the north suffered from the strongest gusts

of wind.

The Met Office has issued amber 'be prepared' weather warnings for wind covering Scotland from 3pm on Monday until Tuesday morning.

Storm Henry hits Killingworth. This clip shows Killingworth lakes wildlife struggling in the expected 90mph winds

making their habitat choppy.

It is hard to believe seeing the footage above of Killingworth Lake that 8 hours it later it was flooded (see footage below). Heavy rain caused the lake to overflow resulting onto the road. Fire engines had to come to allow the road to be pumped to become accesinle again. This is evidence of the destruction storm Henry caused to Killingworth.

Video sent in from Sophie-Jade Akrill who lives near Killingworth Lake. This shows the welly deep flood from Killingworth

due to the large amount of rain causing the lake to overflow.

Schools have been closed and train services suspended after Storm Henry swept in bringing strong gales causing huge trees to fall down and lorries to be blown off roads. This caused a lot of traffic disruption, making journeys to town from Killingworth that would normally take 20 mins take up to over an hour.

Tweets from Stagecoach Twitter page showing the travel disruption caused by Storm Henry's strong winds creating tailbacks.

Motorists are being urged to take extra care during the stormy weather as road condition are becoming hazardous. The Met Office states:'Be prepared for some potentially severe weather, causing transport disruption and difficult driving, some structural damage, dangerous coastal conditions and disruption to power supplies'

An overturned lorry on the Central Motorway has caused traffic chaos across Newcastle. The lorry toppled over and crashed into the central reservation between the Great North Road and Cow Hill junctions at around 2am.The vehicle was carrying pallets which were littered across the carriageway and diesel spilled across all four lanes of the road. Thus caused closure of this road for major clean up operations.

The A19 was closed southbound at Cramlington after a lorry overturned between Moor Farm Roundabout and the A1056 Killingworth Way. The Shields Ferry was cancelled because of the strong winds and replacement buses between North Shields and South Shields put in place.

Disruption is expected to continue overnight and into tomorrow morning, as gale force winds continue to batter the region.
